Your second year should have taught you all how to spell your name in Cirth runes. If you are unsure, there is a copy of the Spellman's Syllabary on the desk in my classroom, in which you will be able to find the correct combination of runes to use in today's assignment.

Which is as follows:

*Use graphite to sketch a five-inch circle on a piece of clean parchment.
*Choose the correct rune formula from the table on Page 35 of Wright's.
*Sketch the formula, along with your name, around the rim in Cirth runes. Make sure it's written backwards.
*Trace over the circle and runes with standard ink.
*Find the corresponding spell from Page 36 and cast it on the parchment, concentrating on your name and the area that you wish to protect.
This will create a rune ward to attach to the outside of a drawer or trunk so that only the person named on the ward will be able to open it. It goes without saying that these wards are not to be placed on another's belongings without permission. You will be graded on craftsmanship rather than the strength of the spell. Beware, though -- a broken circle or misplaced syllable may cause your ward to fail somewhat spectacularly.

For homework, find someone who doesn't take this class and follow the instructions on Page 36 to create a rune ward keyed to their name. Advanced students, add fire and water protection by incorporating red and blue ink, and key your ward to a specific object rather than a receptacle.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask. Also, I shall need an assistant or two to carry assignments back to my office.

That'll hold the little devils. *evil grin*

[[First strike readable; second strike gone. Yay for nitpicky, fiddly assignments? XDDD As before, leave a note to say how your character did, and have fun thinking up creative malfunctions for bad wards!]]

Heather failed on doing her ward correctly (go, misreading the corresponding runes) and ended up causing a bunch of heather (the plant) to grow on most of her text books. XP

Bob, somewhat irate, points out the correct runes in the book and asks her to scourgify the plant matter before it takes over entirely. Grade: P, please redo.

Daisya did the basic assignment very well, showing he does know how to make things clean in different alphabets and such,
and is now using it to make random things accessible to random people.
Though he tried doing the advanced spells on the roster he found for Professor Tiedoll's class by putting it in a box and sealing it.

The box went up in a delightful burst of flame and water.

Pleasantly surprised at Daisya's draftsmanship though he WILL get you if he finds out what you're doing, Bob gives him an E for the original assignment and refers him to Professor Tiedoll to make restitution for his error. He's still wondering how Daisya made fire and water appear when the ward was supposed to deflect them.

After rereading the text several times, Mikage did the assignment pretty well. He needed Autor to better explain some things, but the results were better than expected. (Of course the sketch was detailed and ledge able.)

Pleased by the quality of the work, Bob gave him an O and pointed out a few improvements that he could make next time.

He looked over the places that needed work, then thanked the Professor for the helpful advise and grade he recieved.

((Sakura ended up doing an okay job with the assignment, however her first try ended up with almost setting a table on fire. Her ward would probably look all right, although her circle might be a bit wibbly looking.))

After asking Sakura to douse the table with Aguamenti, Bob examines her second ward and pronounces it a passable A, further suggesting that a compass and ruler could make subsequent assignments neater.

He somehow manages to get a McCormick reaper to show up when another third year tried to get too close to his trunk, When Kenny was studying nearby.

Needless to say, Kenny nearly died. Again. But he avoided it by several inches.
So all's good in the world - for the moment. 8D;

[[Uh... well, depends on where YOU want it to be. If it's in class, that'd be utter genius/greatness!!! At least when he screwed up on something, he got something with his surname on it. XD;]]

[[XDDD I do so declare it!]]

It took ten students and some very powerful spells to Petrify the reaper, though Bob wasn't able to do more than direct the operation and not die again when it ploughed right over him. Since Kenny had not meant to summon it, Bob sent him off to the Hospital Wing without taking points, although he did assign lines... to be done in Cirth.

XDDD Making me earn my keep, are you?

Chizuru does a relatively good job. Nothing special or fancy, but nothing explodes. (It may emit a funny smell though. XD)

Dokuro does it and does it well, though the little artistic details she adds (flowers and puppies and ponies) might interfer with the spell. XD

Osaka draws a very odd rendition of the rune that, when she put it on her trunk, it created a small black hole into which both trunk and rune disappeared, immediately after which the black hole imploded on itself. XD

Having no sense of smell, Bob looks Chizuru's work over and gives her an E.

Dokuro's artistic work raises his brows and causes the ward to whinny rather loudly when approached by anyone but Dokuro, but since it does do its job otherwise, she's given an E as well.

As for Osaka..... [[XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!]] did this happen in the classroom or afterwards in her dorm?

As nobody was sucked into the black hole, Bob (after thanking the Lord that he was currently unable to have a heart attack) decided not to inform Dumbledore of the instance, but gave Osaka a P and asked her to stay after class and make up the work when there were no live people in the room.
